Today a ski resort of international repute with a largely pedestrianised town centre and a range of shopping and culinary options, the medieval town of Kitzbühel, on the banks of the Kitzbuhler Ache, was originally settled between 1100 and 800 BC. Places of interest include the 12th century St. Catherine's Church, the Reisch Dance Cafe, which was built in 1928, and the Kitzbühel Museum which showcases the work of the Tyrolean painter Alfons Walde.
